Tuesday - PE day. Children will only need to remove their shoes/socks. No PE kit needed.

Wednesday - Tricky Trees will be sent home.

Friday - Reading/Library books sent home.

Snack Time - Please provide your child with either a piece of fruit or vegetables cut up and stored in a plastic container with their name clearly labelled on it.  We do not encourage cereal bars or crisps.

Milk/Water - Your child will be provided with a carton of milk to accompany their snack in the morning.  If they do not like milk, please send in a water bottle.  They can drink from this water bottle throughout the day and we will refill with water when necessary.

Squash - If your child has a packed lunch from home they can also bring a bottle containing squash to drink at lunchtime only.   We do not encourage drinking squash throughout the day due to the amount of sugar contained in these drinks.  This also applies to sugar free squash.  Please provide a separate water bottle for drinking from throughout the day.

Many thanks

AUTUMN TERM TOPIC

Our topic this term is called 'Night or day?'.  A newspaper report of a nuclear explosion in Tonyrefail and a video of the destruction left in our school grounds, with a star left hanging in our trees during the day, was a great way to start the topic to enthuse and inspire the children to want to find out more!

This topic will enable the children to explore 'after dark' including finding out about the moon, stars, nocturnal animals and familiar routines at the end of the day and will be linked to all areas of the Welsh curriculum.

In this topic the children will learn about :

  • Routines that they take part in at bedtime
  • The moon and the stars and how the sky changes at night
  • Sources of light and that dark is the absence of light
  • Nocturnal animals such as owls, bats and foxes including where they live and how they behave
  • Time
  • Simple lullabies and nursery rhymes
  • expressing their own ideas and feelings about dreams that they experience
  • Being safe and feeling safe at night time
  • The Welsh language using words and phrases describing time and feelings, both inside and outside the classroom
  • Opportunities for emergent writing, drawing and mark making

Exciting Times - We will also be holding a Pyjama Day when the children can wear their pyjamas to school and bring their favourite bedtime cuddly toy with them , and.....

arrange a visit from the Owl Sanctuary when we will get to meet different types of Owls and other nocturnal animals!

More information to follow.

I am sure you will agree that this is a very exciting way to start the Reception year and I know the children will enjoy participating in both the indoor and outdoor activities that are planned and linked cross curricular to the skills of the new Welsh curriculum.

Regular photographic and video updates will be posted on dojo so be sure to check regularly on our class page.

Many thanks

Miss Ayres
