30 Hours of Free Childcare
Parents and guardians can apply for childcare and early education for up to 30 hours a week. Foster carers and kinship carers (relative or friend who is not a child’s parent) can also apply.
30 hours a week is made up of:
The amount you will get depends on how many hours of early education your local authority offers.
You can use funded childcare hours at any time during holiday weeks, night or day, including at weekends.
You can choose how much of the 30 hours you use for up to 48 weeks of the year. If you do not use all 30 hours in one week, you cannot use them in another week.
Breakfast Club
There is a free Breakfast Club operating from the school from 8.00 a.m. The last entry to Breakfast Club is at 8.20 a.m.
The Breakfast will consist of:
❖A bowl of cereal
❖A piece of buttered toast & jam/marmalade
❖A glass of fruit juice
After they have eaten their breakfast, which the children do all together with a huge emphasis on developing the skills necessary to do this, older children go out into the playground at 8.50 am to play with their friends and younger children have supervised activities, either outside or indoors until the bell goes at 9.00 am.
The Welsh Assembly Government established the Free Breakfast scheme primarily for children in more disadvantaged areas who did not receive a nutritious breakfast before starting school. Even though we have very few children, if any, in this category in Cwmlai, it was decided that we would establish a Breakfast Club as an additional service to our parent community. However, we do have limited space and it is for that reason that we have to limit the numbers to around 80.
We have 3 criteria:
●Children who are in receipt of Free School Meals;
●Children who have Special needs;
●Children who have working parents.
Once these criteria have been applied places are allocated on a ‘first come first served’ basis. Please let us know if you would like his/her name to be put on our waiting list.
Auntie Mair’s Pre-School facility.
If you have children of pre-school age Cwmlai Primary hosts a private registered play facility. This is housed in a separate part of the building at the end of the Junior department. It is run by Auntie Mair and her team of Pre School play professionals. Children are accepted here from the age of 2years 6 months and can remain until they start school at Cwmlai. There are strong links between this group and our Nursery classes as we feel it aids transition to full time school.
Costs are as follows:
3 hours (9.00 – 12.00) £11
4 hours (9.00 – 01.00) £12
